Maltese Galletta

Galletta (Ship’s Biscuit)

With a recipe going back more than 150 years, and passed down from generation to generation, this is the oldest product within our range. Made from flour, water and a pinch of salt and yeast, Galletti are dry and hard. Galletti could survive rough handling, making them ideal for long voyages at sea.

Baked in a stone oven, the process was long and tedious. Locally, Galletti were and still are a favourite traditional biscuit. Originally square shaped, they were later produced circular as we know them today.
